Calligraphy bridges the gap between writing and art. Also known as 'decorative handwriting', calligraphy has evolved significantly over the years. While traditional calligraphy continues to be practiced widely, calligraphers are actively exploring the genre of 'Modern Calligraphy'. So, on that note, Yellow Class has curated this 'Modern Calligraphy' program for all the budding calligraphists.

Better Handwriting
It goes without saying that calligraphy helps in improving handwriting. In this program, kids will learn how to form letters properly which would enhance their handwriting.

Evoked Interest In Art
What separates calligraphy from handwriting is its aesthetic appeal. Kids will learn how to apply artistic expression in their handwriting, that will boost their interest in art.

Improved Concentration
Calligraphy requires concentration and precision. So, this program will help improve concentration power in kids. It will also enhance memory
Shagun Khanna teaches calligraphy and handwriting to children. In the past 6 years, Shagun has taught thousands of aspiring students and helped them hone the art. She also volunteers at NGOs and gives free handwriting sessions.
"a to e" & Basic Strokes
Our mentor will start this program by getting kids acquainted with ‘Italic’ type cursive fonts. She will teach kids how to write the letters ‘a to e’ using basic modern calligraphy strokes. Kids will learn how to make these letters 'one stroke at a time’.

"f to i" & Word : 'High Life"
Let’s move forward! Kids will now make letters ‘f to i’ with our skilled mentor’s guidance and will also learn how to write ‘High Life’ in modern calligraphy. Again, all the letters will be written in an ‘Italic’ type font.

"m to s" & Word : "Happiness"
Our mentor will now cover letters ‘m to s’ and will teach kids how to write ‘Happiness’ in the same font. She will also stress the importance of writing with concentration and precision.

"t to z" & Words Try , Tea, Watch & Zip
By now, kids will become familiar with using Italic type cursive fonts. Our mentor will now draw letters ‘t to z’, and will then write the words Try, Watch and Zip by applying her expert calligraphy skills.

Recap & Calligram
In this 'Recap' session, our mentor will let kids revise what they've learned so far. She will also surprise kids with a fun activity wherein she will draw a 'calligram'.

Basic Strokes
Let’s learn how to perfect basic strokes! In this session, our mentor will familiarise kids with different strokes used in calligraphy and how to use these strokes to make different calligraphy fonts.

Black Letter Font : Baseline Letters
So far, kids have learnt how to make Italic-type fonts. Let’s now move on and delve into the world of ‘Old English’ fonts. This font style reminds us of the past and has a sense of majesty and royalty to it. So, let’s start with learning how to make baseline letters in ‘Balck Letter Font’- a type of Old English font.

Gothic Font: Baseline Letters
Did you know that the 'Gothic Script' was used throughout western Europe until the 17th century? So, learn to make baseline letters in classic 'Gothic' font in this session. Make sure you pay complete attention to each stroke and draw with precision.

Ascender and Descender Letters
Have you heard of ‘Ascender’ and ‘Descender’ letters? In this session, kids will get well-versed with Ascender and Descender letters, and how to perfect them while doing calligraphy.

Descender Letters & Numbers : "0 to 9"
In this session, our mentor will teach the little calligraphers how to write descender letters and numbers from 0 to 9. Kids will learn easy methods to write these letters and numbers. They will also learn how to draw with concentration.

Old English Style Recap : Poster
This session will offer a recap of the ‘Old English’ font style to help kids retain it better. She will give kids a gist of what they have learned so far.

Uncial Font : "a to j"
Unical is an old script which dates back to the 2nd century. It was considered among the more 'practical' scripts as it was faster to write. It was used till the 10th century. In this module, our mentor will teach kids how to perfect uncial font. She will start the module by teaching kids how to write the letters ‘a to j’ in this font.

Fraktur Small : "a to i "
The name Fraktur comes from Latin and means "fractured" or "broken script". It is so-called because its ornamental twiddly bits (curlicues) break the continuous line of a word. In German, it is called Deutsche Schrift (German script). In this module, kids will learn how to draw this font with accuracy. In this session, she will teach kids how to draw the letters ‘a to i’ in the Fraktur (small) font.
