Acrylic Painting (Kathakali Mask)

In this session the mentor will teach kids how to make a kathakali mask for home décor. Children will also learn about sketching, and cutting the shape of the mask as a first step.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

• A medium-size thick paper plate 5-6" diameter (you can take 2-3 paper plates if plates are thin)
• Thick cardboard Preferably white or light in color (size 15" x24" approx)
• Acrylic Paints- (Bottle or Tube) Red, Bright Green, yellow, orange, and white
• Basic Stationeries (Pencil, Eraser, Sharpen)
• Black sketch Pen or marker
• Various thin and thick painting brushes
• Scissors
• Earbuds 5-6
• Bottle lids or caps or compass can be used for making different size circles
• Rough cloth

NOTE: Adult supervision is required for use of any sharp object like scissors or compass.

In this session of Kathakali mask making and home décor, children will learn the second step of making a Kathakali mask, which includes outlining/sketching the mask, colouring it, and finishing it, with all of the necessary craft materials, paints, and other materials.

• Kathakali mask cardboard cut-out (continued from Session 1)
• A medium-size Thick paper plate (5-6" diameter)
• Acrylic Paints-(Bottle or Tube) (Red, Bright Green, yellow, orange and white)
• Various thin, flat and thick painting brushes
• Painting colour Palette
• Earbuds (5-6 qty)
• Small Bottle lids (for making small circles)
• A bowl of water (for cleaning the brush)
• A Rough cloth

NOTE: A Yellow Acrylic colour plus a drop of Red colour can be used to make an orange shade.

In this session, students will finish colouring the rest of the mask and carefully paint the paper plate with a green colour shade.

• Acrylic Paints(tube or bottle)- (Red, Bright Green, Yellow, Orange, and White)
• Various Thin, Thick, flat and Round painting brushes (Round Brush 1 number for detailing)
• Painting color Palette
• Earbuds (5-6 Qty)
• Bottle Lids (for making small circles)
• A Bowl of water (for cleaning brush)
• A Rough cloth

NOTE: You can add White Acrylic colour with a drop of the green for making a light green shade.

The mentor will guide kids with completing the facial expressions and minor details on the art work. Kids will be making eyes, eyebrows, nose, lips and rest of the face on a paper plate and carefully colouring the mask.

• Acrylic Paints - (Red, Bright Green, Yellow, Black, Bright blue, and White)
• Various Thin and Round painting brushes (1 number brush)
• Basic Stationery (Pencil, Scale, Sharpner, and Eraser)
• Black sketch Pen or black marker
• Painting Palette
• A bowl of water for cleaning brush
• A Rough cloth
• Bottle lids can be used for making small circles
• A plain rough paper or extra paper plate ( For Practice)
• Bottle lids can be used for making small circles
• Fevicol
• Earbuds (5-6 qty)

The kids will finish the artwork by detailing and outlining the mask by finishing the upper and lower parts of the mask in this final session.They will be pasting the paper plate at the face of the mask and we will complete our final artwork with the help of all the craft related materials.
